Does President Biden Deserve To Be Impeached?
Nikki Haley Is Doing What?
In the dynamic landscape of U.S. politics, Nikki Haley, the former South Carolina governor, has become a significant contender, particularly among moderate voters who might lean towards Joe Biden over Donald Trump. A recent POLITICO analysis highlights Haley’s appeal and its potential impact on political dynamics.
Exit polls from the 2022 midterms revealed a pattern where voters who were somewhat critical of Biden’s performance showed a nearly even split between Democratic and Republican congressional candidates. This trend mirrors Haley’s ability to attract voters with ambivalent views of Biden.
The perception of Donald Trump, a divisive figure within the GOP, is key in predicting the choices of Biden-Haley voters. Around 14% of voters who view Trump very unfavorably would choose Biden over Trump, but prefer Haley over Biden.
Haley’s potential to draw in disenchanted voters is also evident. For instance, in Wisconsin, 19% of voters not very enthusiastic about the 2024 election were inclined towards a Biden-Haley choice.
Haley’s appeal cuts across demographic lines, including gender and education, areas where Trump has struggled. Equal proportions of men and women in Marquette polling were Biden-Haley voters, and other polls suggest Haley could reduce the gender gap seen in the 2020 election.
A Fox News poll showed Trump leading Biden among men but trailing among women. In contrast, Haley would lead among both men and women, narrowing the gender gap.
Moreover, Haley could bridge the class divide in politics. She appeals to well-educated voters who have been hesitant about Trump’s GOP. Against Biden, Haley matches Trump’s support among non-college-educated white voters and overcomes Trump’s deficit with college-educated white voters.
Significantly, Haley has the potential to attract crossover voters – those who voted for Biden in 2020 but might consider a Republican in the next election. POLITICO’s analysis suggests Haley could win about 15% of Biden’s 2020 voters, compared to Trump’s ability to attract only 5%.
However, Haley still faces challenges in securing the GOP nomination. While her potential to transform the Republican electoral coalition is notable, her success in the primaries and translating her appeal into a viable presidential campaign remains uncertain.
