Is Biden Physically Too Weak To Be President Again?

House Republicans Unveil Resolution for Contempt Charges Against Hunter

On Monday, the House Oversight and Accountability Committee disclosed the details of a resolution aimed at Hunter Biden, son of President Biden, for not complying with a subpoena. This subpoena required him to participate in a private deposition as a part of the House GOP’s impeachment investigation into President Biden.

The resolution instructs the Speaker to forward the contempt report to a relevant U.S. attorney to ensure legal proceedings against Mr. Biden are carried out as per the law. It also urges the Speaker to take all necessary steps to enforce the subpoena.

The House Oversight and Judiciary Committees have planned to review this contempt resolution on Wednesday morning. This move comes after Hunter Biden missed a scheduled deposition on December 13. Despite Hunter Biden’s willingness to testify in a public hearing and his legal team’s concerns about private testimony being misrepresented by House Republicans, the GOP insisted on a private format initially. They offered a public hearing at a later date, with the intention to release the deposition transcript.

The Republican leadership emphasized that Hunter Biden had no valid excuse for ignoring the subpoenas, stating that his testimony was crucial for the legislative and impeachment duties of Congress. They declared his non-compliance a violation of federal law.

On the scheduled deposition day, Hunter Biden, accompanied by his legal counsel, made a public statement outside the Senate, denying any involvement of his father in his business dealings and declined to take questions.

Representative Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), the leading Democrat on the Oversight Committee, criticized the Republicans for proceeding with the contempt resolution. He argued that the GOP was obstructing their own investigation by not allowing Hunter Biden to testify publicly, accusing them of maintaining distortions and conspiracy theories rather than revealing the truth.

The House GOP’s impeachment inquiry largely focuses on Hunter Biden’s international business activities and the Department of Justice’s investigation into his tax affairs. Both President Biden and his son have consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The committee report mentioned that the subpoena was also part of their legislative oversight responsibility, aiming to inform potential reforms, including those related to criminal law, to address the influence exerted by family members of the President and Vice President.

Biden’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, criticized the GOP’s move as a political play, questioning their reluctance to accept Hunter Biden’s offer to answer all pertinent questions. The accompanying report to the Oversight contempt resolution countered Lowell’s arguments, stating that the legitimacy of the investigation’s objectives was not disputed by Lowell, but rather the methodology, which is under the committee’s discretion, not Mr. Lowell or Mr. Biden.
