Liz Cheney Wants To Run for President, Can She Beat Trump?
President Joe Biden appealed to Congressional Republicans for their assistance in curbing gun violence, while also commending law enforcement for their relentless pursuit of the assailant in the tragic Maine shootings.
The military reservist responsible for the mayhem—first at a Lewiston bowling alley, followed by a local bar—was discovered deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Friday, concluding a grueling 48-hour manhunt.
In Biden’s remarks, he expressed that the grim events have left an indelible impact not only on the community of Lewiston but on the nation as a whole. He described the emotional toll on the families of the victims as unimaginable, emphasizing that countless loved ones are left grappling with a form of trauma that no one should ever have to endure.
Biden gave high praise to the law enforcement agencies involved in the manhunt, acknowledging their tireless efforts and personal risks taken to mitigate further loss of life. He extolled them as “the finest among us,” for their dedication and valor.
Additionally, Biden expressed gratitude toward Maine’s Governor Janet Mills for her composed and effective leadership amid this crisis. He reassured that his administration would extend all necessary resources to support the people of Maine in this troubling time.
In a call to action, the President said, “The current state of affairs is unacceptable for Americans,” and renewed his plea to Congressional Republicans. He urged them to take up their responsibility in making America safer from gun violence. He concluded by stating that until meaningful changes are made, he will persist in using his executive powers to tackle the scourge of gun violence, as both the people of Lewiston and the country at large deserve nothing less.
