Senate Democrats Say Trump Wants To End Democracy, Are They Right?

AOC Suggests Trump Reinforces Insecure Voters’ Beliefs About Race and Masculinity

New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, speaking on the “I’ve Had It” podcast, recently commented that Donald Trump reinforces the insecurities of men and White people. During the podcast with hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie “Pumps” Sullivan, she discussed the impact of people over-identifying with politicians like Trump and Biden.

Ocasio-Cortez argued that Trump symbolizes a distorted version of masculinity for insecure men and a skewed perspective on wealth and race for insecure White people. She suggested that this is the result of people seeking affirmation of their identity and life through electoral politics, leading to the rise of demagogues. In contrast, she views Joe Biden as not embodying these psychological aspects, which she considers more honest and reflective of reality.

While acknowledging her disagreements with President Biden on issues like his handling of the war in Gaza, Ocasio-Cortez emphasized the importance of looking beyond these disagreements for the country's benefit in the upcoming 2024 election. She highlighted the necessity to prevent the growth of fascist movements in the U.S. and expressed hope in political activism outside of electoral politics.

Ocasio-Cortez explained that voting for Biden does not mean he represents everything she stands for. Despite endorsing Biden for a second term, the No Excuses PAC, led by her former communications director Corbin Trent, recently released an ad urging Biden to withdraw from the race. The ad argued that stepping aside would secure his legacy as one of the greatest presidents, whereas clinging to power could lead to Trump's final destruction of democracy.
