Kushner Claims Schumer Informed Relatives’ Acquaintances of His Alleged Imminent Imprisonment
Jared Kushner, who is not only related to former President Trump by marriage but also served as his advisor, recounted an instance where Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y) had allegedly informed friends of Kushner’s mother that Kushner faced imprisonment due to his supposed connections with Russia during the 2016 elections.
During his appearance on the Lex Fridman Podcast, Kushner conveyed the distress this caused his mother, assuring her they had done nothing wrong despite the rumors. He shared her anxiety over claims made by Schumer during conversations with acquaintances in New York’s Upper East Side.
Kushner, wedded to Trump’s daughter Ivanka, has consistently refuted claims about his attempts to set up a covert communication link between the Trump campaign and Russia before the 2016 election culminated.
He was present at a high-profile gathering that also included Donald Trump Jr., the ex-campaign leader Paul Manafort, and a female thought to be a Russian official, promising compromising information on Hillary Clinton.
Although Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation did recognize extensive Russian meddling in the 2016 election process, it failed to establish that members of Trump’s campaign deliberately participated in these activities.
Post the 2016 election victory, Kushner had a meeting with Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador to the U.S., and Michael Flynn, soon to be Trump’s primary advisor on national security. Discussions reportedly included the possibility of a secure communication route between Trump’s transitional team and Russian officials.
Initially, Kushner didn’t give much weight to these claims, considering them baseless. He expressed his concern on the podcast about the potential for minor missteps being blown out of proportion, leading to serious legal consequences.
Kushner was swept into the whirlwind of inquiries by Senate committees concerning the alleged association between Trump’s campaign and Russia. He recounted spending over 20 hours in testimonies across various committees and shelling out millions for legal defense from his own finances.
He reflected, with absolute certainty, on the falsehood of the accusations, finding it challenging to grasp the public’s readiness to believe Senator Schumer’s assertions without substantiated evidence. The experience, he conceded, was an arduous one.
