Should Voters Have To Provide Proof Of U.S. Citizenship To Vote?
Haley Expresses Doubts About Trump’s Loyalty to the Constitution
During a “Meet the Press” interview, Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley raised questions about former President Donald Trump’s dedication to the Constitution should he win the presidency again in 2024, as reported by The Hill.
The interview, conducted in Falls Church, Virginia, and scheduled for broadcast on Sunday, saw Haley grappling with questions from moderator Kristen Welker about Trump’s potential to honor the constitutional oath if re-elected. The ex-governor of South Carolina expressed her uncertainties, stating, “I don’t know. You’d like to believe that someone would, but I’m not sure.” She emphasized that only Trump could shed light on what he might do.
Amidst growing discussions about Trump’s ability to run for office again, some states are looking into legal grounds to exclude him from their electoral ballots. This movement is largely motivated by claims that Trump played a role in inciting the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, which could make him ineligible to run for office under the 14th Amendment’s clause against insurrection.
A recent decision by an Illinois judge prevented Trump from being listed on the state’s GOP primary ballot, though this action is on hold pending an appeal.
Furthermore, the Supreme Court is preparing to review a case concerning Trump’s eligibility for Colorado’s ballot, marking a crucial point for other states considering similar exclusion tactics, as noted by The Hill.
Despite facing challenges in Michigan and South Carolina, Trump remains a leading figure in the Republican primary race. Nevertheless, Haley is steadfast in her campaign efforts, aiming to make a significant impact by Super Tuesday on March 5, a key date when a substantial portion of the delegates for the presidential nomination will be decided.
