Stefanik Wants To Be Trump 2024 VP, Should He Pick Her?
Stefanik Refuses to Pledge Certification of 2024 Election Results
Representative Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) did not explicitly commit to certifying the results of the 2024 elections, stating that she would evaluate the legality and validity of the election. In an interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press,” when asked if she would certify the 2024 results regardless of the outcome, Stefanik responded by saying it depends on the election’s legality.
This query emerged following Stefanik’s earlier statements in the interview about her reasons for objecting to Pennsylvania’s 2020 election results on Jan. 6, 2021. She defended her decision by citing concerns over unconstitutional actions in Pennsylvania, such as changes in election law and elimination of signature-matching requirements, which she believed circumvented the state legislature.
Stefanik was one of the 147 Republicans in Congress who voted against certifying the election results in Pennsylvania and Arizona. When NBC News moderator Kristen Welker questioned Stefanik about her commitment to certifying future election results, Stefanik emphasized that her decision would depend on constitutional adherence, not solely on whether Trump wins.
She also criticized the Democrats for alleged attempts to manipulate election outcomes, including gerrymandering and efforts to disqualify Trump from the ballot in Colorado and Maine. These states ruled against Trump’s eligibility based on the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause, decisions that have been appealed to higher courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
Stefanik, a strong Trump supporter, highlighted upcoming Supreme Court cases that will decide whether Trump should be allowed on state primary ballots. She argued that the decisions to remove him were acts of voter suppression and that the American people should decide Trump’s eligibility in the November election.
