Abbott Solves Texas Border Crisis
In a recent interview with NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas, Texas Governor Greg Abbott stated that while Texas has effectively addressed its immigration issues, the broader challenges at the national level remain unresolved. Abbott emphasized that a change in presidential leadership is necessary to secure the U.S. borders comprehensively.
Abbott has been vocal in his disputes with the Biden administration regarding the surge of migrants at the Texas-Mexico border. He argued that with Vice President Harris now leading the Democratic ticket, Texas should enhance its border defenses, including tripling the use of razor wire barriers.
During the interview, Abbott highlighted the state’s controversial measures, such as maintaining a floating barrier of buoys in the Rio Grande, which the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently allowed to remain. This barrier aims to deter migrants from crossing into Texas. Despite federal criticisms that Texas is overstepping its bounds, Abbott plans to expand this deterrent, pending final court approval.
Additionally, Abbott mentioned that migration issues are not limited to the Texas-Mexico border but also involve migrants coming from other U.S. states like Arizona and New Mexico. In response, Texas has started installing razor wire along its borders with these states to prevent illegal activities and discourage migrants and cartels from entering Texas.
Furthermore, Abbott’s administration has transported migrants to Democratic-led states through Operation Lone Star, a move he describes as part of a larger strategy to deter migration to Texas rather than an end goal. Despite these efforts, Abbott anticipates an increase in migrant arrivals and is prepared to resume bussing operations if necessary.
