Trump Says Biden Must Take Cognitive Test To Be President, Should He?

Hur States Classified Documents Report Does Not Clear Biden

Special Counsel Robert Hur emphasized on Tuesday that his investigation into President Biden’s handling of classified documents did not serve as a clear vindication, contrary to claims made by some Democrats. Despite not recommending charges, Hur stressed that his findings did not constitute an “exoneration” of Biden.

During the hearing, Representative Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.), a leading member of the House Judiciary Committee, asserted that Hur’s report completely cleared President Biden. However, when queried about Nadler’s statement, Hur disagreed, clarifying to Representative Kevin Kiley (R-Calif.) that his report did not claim to exonerate Biden.

This clarification was reiterated in an interaction with Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), who suggested the investigation fully absolved Biden. Hur corrected her, stating that “exoneration” was not a term used in his report nor a goal of his role as a prosecutor.

In his testimony, which spanned several hours, Hur discussed his report from February, which did not suggest pursuing charges against Biden for mishandling classified documents. Although the report mentioned Biden’s occasional memory lapses during an extensive interview, it noted Biden’s assertions of having no intention to retain classified materials unlawfully.

Democrats attempted to highlight the differences between Biden’s case, noting his cooperation with Hur’s investigation, and former President Trump’s situation. Trump faces 40 federal charges in Florida related to his management of classified documents, contrasting with Biden’s compliance and transparency during the investigation.
