Will Mike Johnson Become The Next House Speaker?
Jenna Ellis, a former lawyer for Donald Trump, has become the latest individual to enter a guilty plea in the extensive Georgia case concerning election interference. In an emotional courtroom appearance, Ellis confessed to fabricating details about election fraud and expressed regret for her role as legal counsel to the former president.
Ellis is pleading guilty to a single charge of aiding and abetting the dissemination of false statements and documents. In return for her guilty plea, she will be granted probation and is expected to testify in the ongoing case.
This development marks her as the fourth defendant to accept a plea deal in this case, and she is the third lawyer who previously represented Trump to do so in recent days.
While addressing the court, Ellis said, “Had I known then what I know now, I would have turned down the opportunity to represent Donald Trump in the challenges following the election.” She continued, expressing deep regret for her actions.
In her admission, Ellis stated that she falsely claimed that thousands of ballots were unlawfully counted in the 2020 election, that numerous felons voted illegally, and that several underage individuals registered to vote before reaching the age of 18.
Prosecutor Daysha Young emphasized in court that Ellis’s false claims were made “with reckless disregard for the truth.” Young also pointed out that Ellis had aided Rudy Giuliani, another former attorney for Trump, in his efforts, particularly during a hearing in Georgia in December 2020.
